Who we are
Teasel's Principal is Tim Burfoot who established the company in 2004 after a successful career in industry, 'big 4' and specialist consulting.
He graduated from the University of Leicester in 1979 with a II(i) in English, Music and American Studies and started his business career in marketing. As a Product Manager at Premier Percussion he had global responsibility for orchestral products. This was very much 'in at the deep end' but enabled him to maintain his deep personal interest in music while building a solid foundation of commercial skills.
Tim moved to the Thomas Cook Group in 1984 as Group Market Research Manager. In addition to managing all syndicated and ad hoc research, he also piloted one of the UK's first examples of database marketing in 1986, and, as a result, became the first employee to have a desktop computer!
His natural inquisitiveness and desire to build a portfolio of complementary transferrable skills led him to spend three years as an Account Director in retail design consultancy between 1987 and 1990. The role had a strong project management component.
Between 1990 and 2004 Tim focused on programme management in retail financial services and held senior project roles at NatWest and Coutts followed by a programme leadership role at PwC and as Director of Financial Services at specialist IT consultancy, Detica.
At NatWest he was responsible for leading a range of strategic distribution and technology projects, including an award-winning prime site branch proposition, and also developed and implemented the first global internet strategy for Coutts Group.
At PwC, Tim led a number of programmes to deliver complex business and IT change, including a £55m customer service transformation in the credit card sector and the operating model and implementation plan for a transformational insurance proposition.
In 2004 Tim returned to front-line delivery as an interim Programme Director. He specialises in complex business and IT programmes that present significant operational and reputational risk. Since 2005 he has delivered successful programmes to clients in the rail, media, hotel and energy utility industries.
Tim maintains his interest in music by playing the piano and has also held a Private Pilot's Licence since 1989.
