BUSINESS DESIGN AND PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT FOR A GLOBAL SAP HR IMPLEMENTATION
International Business Media Group
The Client
Our client is the world's leading business media organisation with hub-operations in the UK, USA, Hong Kong and Manila, as well as a workforce dispersed in over 120 global locations. They are both originators and publishers of content 24 hours per day in both printed and online formats. In addition, they publish a number of weekly and monthly titles, targeted at the business and investment community.
The Problem
Although the workforce is not large (some 1,500 staff) it is widely dispersed geographically and supplemented with a significant number of casual and temporary workers. In addition, each hub-location operated independently from a Human Resources perspective, leading to little more than 50% of HR processes being performed to a standard global framework. The role of HR was largely administrative, requiring extensive manual effort.
The organisation recognised the need to identify and implement a new HR system that would be capable of supporting multiple jurisdictions and would provide a foundation for introducing consolidated business processes.
The Solution
Following a short initial evaluation, we worked with the client team to specify a broad set of requirements that met the combined needs of each part of the business. In parallel, we completed a detailed process analysis as a means of revealing the extent of inconsistency in current process fulfilment, and managed a thorough vendor selection process.
Following the selection of SAP 2005 as the preferred technology platform, we provided overall programme management and ongoing business analysis, including data consolidation and organisation design. In this role, we were responsible for managing a number of external suppliers and for ensuring that all parts of the global HR team were fully engaged.
Benefits
The core solution was delivered within tight time and cost constraints and enabled a rapid reduction in administrative HR costs.
